Privacy Policy

Effective 29 September 2026 · Applies to the Bigday iPhone app and this website

The short version. Bigday has no accounts and no analytics. We do not run servers that receive your data. Your events live on your iPhone and, if you turn on iCloud, in your own private iCloud database that we cannot read. There are no ads and no tracking.

1. Who we are

Bigday is developed and published by the Bigday developer (the "developer", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Bigday app for iPhone ("the app") and the website at this domain handle, and why. It is written to be read, not skimmed, so it is short.

2. Data the app handles

The app stores the information you enter so it can show your countdowns:

DataWhere it livesPurpose
Event title, date, glyph or emoji, theme, notes, reminder choices, creation dateOn your iPhone, in the app's private container shared with its widget. Optionally in your iCloud (see section 3).Showing countdowns in the app and in widgets; scheduling reminders.
Photos you choose as event backgroundsA downscaled copy on your iPhone, in the app's private container.Displaying photo backgrounds in cards, widgets and share cards.
Your Pro statusOn your iPhone, mirrored from your App Store purchase.Unlocking Pro features in the app and widget.
App preferences (default theme, reminder defaults, onboarding shown)On your iPhone.Remembering your settings.

We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or any identifier. The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK from us. The only network connections the app makes are to Apple (StoreKit, iCloud, push for iCloud sync).

3. iCloud sync

If iCloud Drive is enabled for Bigday on your device, your events are synced using Apple's CloudKit to the private database of your own iCloud account. This is how your countdowns appear on a new iPhone after you sign in. The private database is encrypted and controlled by Apple; the developer has no access to its contents and no ability to read, export, or delete your events on your behalf. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn sync off for Bigday at any time in Settings › your name › iCloud › Apps Using iCloud.

4. Purchases

Bigday Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment and holds your billing details; the app never sees your payment information. The app checks your App Store transaction history on your device to know whether you own Pro, and stores that yes/no answer locally so the widget can read it. Restoring a purchase works the same way. Apple's privacy terms apply to the transaction itself.

5. No advertising or tracking

Bigday contains no advertising, no advertising SDK, and no third-party analytics. The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not access the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not share any data with data brokers. Because nothing is tracked, the app does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

6. Notifications

Milestone reminders (30 days, 7 days, 1 day, and on the day) are local notifications scheduled on your device by the app. They are not sent from a server and do not require any information to leave your iPhone. Bigday never sends marketing notifications. The app also registers for silent push notifications from Apple solely so iCloud can tell it when your events changed on another device. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings › Notifications › Bigday.

7. Photos

When you choose a photo background, the app uses the system photo picker, which shows the app only the photos you select. A copy scaled down to at most 1600 pixels on the long edge is stored inside the app's container so widgets can display it. Removing the photo from the event, or deleting the event, deletes that copy. If you tap "Save image" on a share card, the app asks for add-only permission to your photo library and writes just that one image.

8. This website

This website is a set of static pages hosted by Vercel. It sets no cookies and shows no advertising. To understand how many people visit and which pages they read, we use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. It records the page URL, referrer, country, and device and browser type, and derives a short-lived anonymous visitor hash from your IP address and user agent that is discarded within 24 hours and never stored as your IP address. Vercel may also keep standard, short-lived server logs in order to deliver the pages and protect against abuse; see Vercel's Privacy Policy. If you email us for support, we keep your message for as long as needed to help you and then delete it.

9. Retention and deletion

10. Children

Bigday is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will help remove it.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because the developer does not hold your personal data, most of these rights are exercised directly on your device (section 9) or with Apple as the data controller for purchases. If you contact us we will do everything we can to help you exercise them.

The legal bases we rely on where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies are: performance of a contract (providing the app you asked for), consent (notifications, photo access), and legitimate interests (keeping the app and website secure).

12. Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a meaningful way we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where the change affects how the app handles data, mention it in the App Store release notes. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
